flower house, mt. desert island, maine

In association with Denise Scott Brown and Robert Venturi, r.e.a.l. is architect for a gallery addition and dining annex for the Acadia Summer Art Program near Bar Harbor, Maine. A retreat for artists from all over the world, the program encourages communication and idea-sharing among residents via weekly meetings and dinners, and the gallery will facilitate this communication, as well as provide a needed venue to exhibit resident-produced and other work.
Two-dimensional iconography on the east elevation complements and enhances the more residentially-scaled and traditionally-inspired massing and materials, which in turn are related and defer to the existing complex of buildings.

Project Team: Jonathan Ho, Gabriel Köche Cé, Chad Firmstone and Mary Hamrick.
