The competition brief called for redevelopment ideas for the Carlsberg Brewery’s 80-acre site in Copenhagen , stressing sustainability, community and identity. r.e.a.l.’s proposal used LIGHT as a point of departure, inspired by the dramatic shifts the city experiences between dark, mid-winter days and light-imbued midsummer nights.

Electronic screens define a central, urban square, providing a venue for civic/urban expression for artists, students and citizens. The re-cladding on three sides of an existing 20-story office tower with electronic screening complements this plaza space with an outwardly-oriented solid.
